"President Trump has refused to walk back his racist tweets targeting a group of Democratic congresswomen of color in part because he believes his supporters will stand by him. CBS News' Ed O'Keefe spoke to a number of Trump supporters on Monday who say they do. "I know some people don't like his tweets and they think he's crass. Another supporter, Doug Thomas, said, "It's unfortunate he had to do it the way he had to do it… It's really the only way he can to get this country back." Nancy Schneider even went so far as to echo the sentiment in President Trump's tweets, saying, "If you think you have it better in your -- where you came from or how they did things there, go back where you came from." President Trump seemingly targeted Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts – who have dubbed themselves "The Squad" – when he tweeted that "'Progressive' Democratic Congresswomen" should "go back" to their countries. The origin of racism in the US came from the fact that white indentured servants originally got along and would flee from slavery together. Slave owners didn’t like that and found that a good way to keep control over their slaves was to put white indentured servants in charge of black slaves. If the white indentured servant didn’t get food or had to work more they were told that it was because the black slaves’ fault. And uprisings against the real problem—the slave owners—happened less and less. To this day it is poor lower class white Americans that are most racist. Many are likely descendants of indentured servants. One of the major solutions to racism in this country is to simply rid of poverty and oppression since that is the real source of the problem.
